DIAGNOSTIC TEMPLATE

Many organizations experience what they term problems, such as:

Plateauing, Declining, or Low Sales, Manufacturing, Administrative and Operational Productivity,

Shrinking Margins,

Resistance to Change,

Continuous Turnover,

Quality Deficiencies,

High Error Rate,

Ineffective Communications,

Low Morale,

Poor Customer Service,

And many other.

While indeed these situations are problematic, for the most part they are not problems per se, but really symptoms of an ineffective Business Strategic Management System.

Within an organization, systems have a direct impact on human behavior. They control as a maximum, to influence as a minimum the behavior of people involved with them.

Such systems direct employee activities toward the specific goals they are designed to accomplish.  When they are not clear cut and related to the company's strategic direction, the above symptoms of  an ineffective strategic management system (productivity, etc.) start to evidence themselves.

A Strategic Management System is composed of the sub-systems of strategic planning and performance management.  The Strategic Management System answers the organizational questions of, "where do we want to go?" and "how are we going to get there?"   It mobilizes employee behavior toward the goals and objectives established in response to those questions.

Consciously or subliminally, every company has a strategic management system (i.e.strategic goals, objectives, and performance activities designed to achieve them). The problem is that in many companies, the system (strategic goals and activities designed to bring them to fruition) is in the mind of the leadership, subliminal and not shared throughout the company.  Or, if on a conscious level and shared, important components are missing, not clearly defined, or not linked together into a single strategic system.

Compare your system to the components of an effective strategic management system. A series of negative responses in any specific area indicates possible weaknesses that may be causing the above problematic situations. If so, corrective action should be taken to strengthen the system in the area identified.

On the other hand, if all or the overwhelming majority of the components are in place, then the problem lies in implementation.  In other words, the system is not being effectively employed. If you would like a free Business Management System Diagnostic Template, email:
